The Central Illinois Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers invites all Central Illinois Perspective readers to join them for a hard-hat tour of the construction site of the new terminal for the General Wayne A. OSF Home Care Services has received a private donation of $2 million from an unnamed source for its proposed Peoria-based OSF Hospice Home. The donation brings the total of funds raised to date for the hospice home to $3.7 million, roughly half of the anticipated project cost. OSF continues to seek public donations to complete the funding for this unique service. The Community Foundation of Central Illinois is currently accepting grant proposals from nonprofit organizations within a 50-mile radius of Peoria. Newly revised grant guidelines can be downloaded at communityfoundationci.org. Proposals must be  received by 4:30pm on September 15th. Saturday, August 21st @ The Shoppes at Grand Prairie The first annual 5K for Wishes 5K Run/Walk will take place from 8am to noon to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois. One Step Closer to a Cleaner River

"Last week, with little fanfare and even less news coverage, the Illinois Pollution Control Board (IPCB) ruled that the Chicago and Calumet river systems should have better water quality standards to protect the people who recreate on them." Open Lands.

These rivers flow into the Illinois River. We need to get them perfectly clean. One of the first things I did in my career in 1974 was to work on environmental improvement to our air and water quality. We spent a great deal of time and money, with the goal of making our nations rivers and streams safe for fishing and swimming by 1985. We did not reach that goal, although our public waters are much improved. But we need to complete the job.

Jobless Recovery

New jobs figures released on August 6th show that in July the economy added just 12,000 jobs after adjusting for temporary census work—too few to keep up with population growth or to reduce the unemployment rate. 

Slightly fewer Americans are working now, a full year into recovery, than when the recession ended in the middle of 2009.

Former Hollywood Video Premises Are Now Available

The former Hollywood Video premises are now available on the outlot at the entrance to the Kroger Supercenter on N. Knoxville Ave. in Peoria.  Einstein Bagels starts construction soon in the former Schlotzsky's unit on the West end-cap, but the 7,202 sq. ft. former HV premises on the East end-cap facing Knoxville are available.  

These premises can be subdivided.  Given the success of the the Kroger Supercenter, the lighted intersection, major traffic counts on Knoxville at this corner, high visibility, convenient access, ample parking, class-A all-brick construction, close access to the Rt. 6 ring road, strong growth rate and large disposable income of the surrounding area, this is certainly a prime site.
