OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria held a topping off ceremony on Monday, June 11th, for the new Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center. The center will utilize the latest innovations in simulation education to train physicians and medical professionals across the region. It is funded in part by a $25 million gift from Jump Trading, a Chicago-based proprietary trading firm. At the ceremony, Dr. John Vozenilek was introduced as the center’s chief medical officer.
On Thursday, June 14th, the Peoria Promise Foundation will compete in Twive and Receive (pronounced like “Give and Receive”), a one-day social media-based fundraising contest to support nonprofits in cities across the country. The top three charities that raise the most donations will get an additional share of $30,000 prize money. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newest store at 3905 N. University in Peoria on Friday, June 15th, at 9am. The grand opening celebration runs through Saturday and includes food and a drawing for a 50” plasma TV and other items. The new store replaces the Goodwill store on War Memorial, which has closed. Season tickets for the 2012-2013 Broadway Theater Series at the Peoria Civic Center are on sale now. The new season features eight of the finest in national touring productions, including one week of Mary Poppins in October and two weeks ofJersey Boys in February. Wheels O’ Time Museum held a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for its new building, which will include both workshop and display areas. The museum has formed an alliance with the Early Ford V-8 Club, which will be responsible for rotating displays of Ford cars from various eras in the new display area.
